5-2 Diet

What is the 5:2 diet?

If you've never heard of it before, the 5:2 diet works like this: two days a week you restrict your calories to
600 a day if you're male, or 500 per day if you're female.

You can decide for yourself which days you decide to fast or how you divide up the calories you use up throughout the day.

On non-fast days ("feast days"), you can eat whatever you wish up to your normal calorie allowance for a man (2550) or for a Woman (1940). You can eat more on feast days if you want but I've had better results sticking to the limit.

The 5-2 diet is very easy to follow as you can eat all the the foods that you love like chips, cake and drink beer providing that you only do it on ("feast days").

This of course means that you can go out for a meal with your friends and family providing that you don't do it on your diet days.

I have to say that the 5-2  diet has completely changed my life. I am a type 2 Diabetic,  67 years old and, overweight.

About 3 months ago I had a very high blood sugar (11.5), a cholesterol reading of 6 and an hb1ac blood reading of 70.

I have now lost a Stone in Weight (14lbs), my blood sugar is now averaging between 5 and 6, my cholesterol is down to 3 and my hb1ac reading is now 30.

My doctor and diabetic practice nurse are both flabbergasted, and my general health has improved tremendously.

What I really like about this diet is that it is so do-able. When you are on one of your fast days you might get a bit hungry but it's always in you're mind that you can make a pig of yourself the next day.

I keep a very close record of what I eat and I keep a list of all calories that I consume each day. It is very easy to look up calories using a search engine like Google You only have to type in a phrase like "How many calories in potatoes" and loads of pages will be listed with the information you need, and you will soon know the values of the foods you eat on a regular basis.
