Atkins Diet Plan
The
Atkins Diet Plan
The
Atkins diet claims that you can lose weight and change your metabolism
quite easily, simply by eating the foods that are high in fat and protein and
by reducing the intake of foods that are high in carbohydrates.
Dr
Atkins explains that eating too many carbohydrates will cause your body to
produce too much insulin which will lead to an increase in your hunger
levels and associated weight gain.
When
you start this diet you will be told how to reduce your carbohydrate
intake to somewhere between 15 to 60 grams per day, where
the fat and protein levels can be literally whatever you want in an effort to
satisfy your hunger.
Advantages
of this diet Plan:-
This
diet is just great for people who enjoy being able to eat as much fat and
protein that they want. This of course is the complete opposite to
more traditional diets.
Those
of us who have tried the more traditional diet plans which are high in
carbohydrates and low in fat and have not had much success can by using
this diet often reduce our food cravings and achieve an incredible weight
loss at the same time.
This
diet plan is fairly easy to follow and it does not include any over
complex meal planning.
Disadvantages
of this diet plan:-
As
we mentioned earlier the Atkins diet sets a limit on the amount of
carbohydrates that we consume. This is ok, but it causes our bodies to to
rely on fat or muscle to develop energy, which can in turn cause dehydration.
What
are Ketones?
When our
bodies break down some fat or muscle to supply energy, they create by-products called ketones.
Ketones are
in fact appetite suppressants, yet they can also cause
nausea and fatigue.
If
you have any form of diabetes, kidney, or heart problems you should never
use a dieting method that will promote the formation of ketones, including the Atkins plan.
Eating
an unlimited amount of fat, especially, fat of the saturated variety found in
many meat products, can lead to a greater risk of heart disease.
How
long can we stay on this diet?
Providing
you follow all of the rules set down in the diet, and it suits your
medical conditions, you should be able to
stay on it for an indefinite period.
